As an ALFA International member firm, Crabbe, Brown & James hosted the Hospitality and Retail Practice Group Regional Seminar on June 16, 2022. This seminar was an afternoon of presentations from member firms from across the country. Specifically, presentation topics included wellness initiatives in the workplace, combatting the reptile-theory approach, the pitfalls of rushing into a Diversity Equity & Inclusion initiative, and current issues of recruiting, retention, and company culture. Attorneys in attendance traveled to Columbus from cities like Los Angeles, St. Louis, Seattle, and Milwaukee.

Crabbe, Brown & James’ associate Christopher Green moderated a panel discussion with partner Matthew Planey and the President of Red Roof Inn, George Limbert. Their presentation discussed considerations for in-house attorneys and outside counsel. Further, the panel discussed best practices to avoid ethical issues regarding attorney-client privilege communications, work-product doctrine, and conflicts of interest. Particularly, the panel discussed how to invoke the privilege of the client’s communication with in-house counsel in anticipation of litigation and when to engage outside counsel.
