Crabbe, Brown & James, on behalf of its client the National Fraternal Order of Police, helped to host the National FOP’s 2021 Labor Summit and Legal Counselor Seminar from March 16-19, 2021 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event was one of the first major conferences to return to Las Vegas since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. All proper safety precautions were in place including masks and social distancing, allowing the week-long event to go off without a hitch.

Crabbe, Brown & James was honored to have attorneys Larry H. James  and Christopher R. Green present at both the Labor Summit and Legal Counselor Seminar. Crabbe, Brown & James Managing Partner and NFOP General Counsel, Larry H. James, discussed ethical considerations for attorneys representing law enforcement. The presentation reviewed professional conduct rules of conflicts of interest for lawyers representing a union and its members. Mr. James’ CLE shared case-specific examples and how they applied to the Model Rules of Professional Conduct.

Additionally, Crabbe, Brown & James Associate and Associate General Counsel, Christopher R. Green, led discussions on Qualified Immunity and State Indemnification: What is it? How does it work? and Task Force Initiatives: Addressing Civilian Review Boards, Collective Bargaining and Arbitration for Law Enforcement, and Qualified Immunity. In 2020, on behalf of the NFOP, Crabbe, Brown & James created various task force groups made up of lawyers from around the country aimed at researching and compiling resources related to key topics in law enforcement. Mr. Green’s CLE discussed these task force initiatives including civilian review boards, collective bargaining and arbitration, qualified immunity, Brady, and COVID-19 vaccines.

Each presentation addressed a critical area that impacts law enforcement and the public at-large. By providing these trainings, our attorneys are working to ensure officers, lawyers, and the public have the most current information available about rights, obligations, and changes and updates to the law.

Larry H. James has served as General Counsel to the NFOP since 2001. The NFOP is the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers with more than 350,000 members in more than 2,100 lodges across the United States.
